Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji  (1469 A.D. - 1539 A.D.)  was the founder of Sikh Faith. He rejected Idol Worshipping, Castism, Sati, and other ill rituals of North India and founded brotherhood of Sikhs or disciples. He widely traveled to Mecca, Madina,Baghdad, Gaya, Benaras, Bidar and other places that were believed to be seat of high learning and brought hundreds of thousands into Sikh fold.

Sri Guru Angad Dev ji  were the successor to Guru Nanak Dev ji. He continued the message of Guru Nanak Dev ji in published form as well as daily sermons. He invented the Gurmukhi Script and wrote down the sermon of Guru Nanak Dev ji on a book, calling it a Pothi.

Sri Guru Amardas ji  the Third Guru established 52 centers of Sikhism all across Punjab calling them Manjis. He vigorously opposed the practice of Sati and encouraged widow remarriage. He also appointed 13 or so priests in these Sikh centers who were women. Thus making Sikhism the first organized religion which gave equal opportunity to the Women.

Sri Guru Ramdas ji  established the City of Amritsar on a land he bought as well as donated by many Sikhs. He continued the teachings of Nanak I through Nanak III.

Sri Guru Har Rai ji  also kept army but instead of a direct confrontation with Mughals he took more retroactive approach and concentrated on preaching. His elder son deliberately to impress Mughal emperor changed the sermon of Nanak for which he forbade his elder son to become next guru and instead made his 5 years old son Har Krishan as Seventh Guru.

Sri Guru Har Krishan ji  were the only Child Guru. Sikhs were impressed at his recitation of Adi Granth which Guru at the tender age of 5 years knew by heart. Guru Har Krishan had a great future but untimely death by Chicken pox at Delhi made his uncle, Tegh Bahadur, the Ninth Guru.
